Two of Britain’s best-loved performers have received another accolade with their names now set to adorn Brighton and Hove buses.

Actresses Gracie Fields and Dora Bryan have been posthumously rewarded for the long connection to the county after being nominated by residents.

Other famous names selected from Brighton and Hove Bus Company’s Name That Bus competition include assassinated Eastbourne MP Ian Gow, beloved author Rudyard Kipling and soldier Jamie Janes, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

The bus company received more than 100 suggestions from the public and an initial list of 15 were selected which also included actress Dame Anna Neagle, Brighton-born composer Frank Bridge and playwright Adrian Bunting who died at the age of 47 in 2013 from pancreatic cancer.

Residents were then asked to vote on a shortlist of 31 names with the nine most popular names also being selected on top of the initial 15.

They include milkman to the stars Alfred Richardson, speaking clock voice Brian Cobby and Dr Who producer John Nathan-Turner.

Their names will now go on the 24 new Coaster buses to be deployed on route 12 servicing Brighton, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Peacehaven, Newhaven, Seaford, East Dean and Eastbourne.
