A REVIEW of the Scottish Examination Board has concluded that it does

a good job and gives value for money.

But a report into its workings, which was published yesterday,

recommended a near 50% reduction in the membership of the board, from 37

to 20. It also said the board should meet more frequently.

The board, which is responsible for conducting examinations leading to

the award of secondary education certificates at Standard and Higher

grade and for sixth-year studies, is as a public body subject to review.

It said the board provided very high standards of examinations. The

Scottish Office Education Minister, Lord James Douglas-Hamilton, also

paid tribute to its work.
