THE first stopover centre for single homeless teenagers in Strathclyde

is to be built in Bridge Street, Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, at a cost

of #500,000. A dozen young people between the ages of 16 and 21 will be

accommodated in the centre, which is owned by the the new Housing

Association of Glasgow and funded by Scottish Homes. It will be run by

National Children's Homes (NCH), Scotland.

A spokesman said: ''It will provide emergency short-term accommodation

for homeless young people.'' During their 12-week stay at the home,

youngsters will be taught domestic and social skills, and how to cope

with DSS benefits and unemployment allowance claims forms. Dumbarton

District Council will supply 25% of the centre's furniture.
