PC Stephen Thorne, 32, was thrown into a canal early yesterday being

almost blinded by glue when he approached two youths hiding under a

bridge on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Hungerford, Berkshire. As he

approached glue was thrown into his eyes and he was pushed into the

water. He managed to struggle to the bank and scrambled ashore to call

for help. He is unable to see out of his right eye and has only limited

vision in his left, and now faces treatment to remove the substance.
