AN AMATEUR photographer was looking for Venus and Jupiter when he snapped this cat and the moon.

John Dyne was in his garden in Burgess Hill enjoying a glass of wine and a spot of stargazing when his neighbour's cat Dotty jumped into shot.

He said: "I was trying to get a picture of the moon and having a couple of glasses of wine.

"I was taking pictures and Dotty, who is a lovely little cat, jumped up on the fence and right into shot.

"I had been out there trying to look for Jupiter and Venus but it clouded over so I missed them.

"I know some friends who did see it, but I suppose I should be please to have got this great picture of Dotty instead."

On Tuesday night Venus and Jupiter appeared so close together in the northern hemisphere's sky that they appeared to look like a single star.

Astronomers said the spectacle could have been the same phenomenon that spark the account of the Star of Bethlehem from the Bible.

The next event of its kind wont happen until 2023.
