EXTREME sport fans are set to go head over heels with excitement at the opening of the world's biggest subterranean skate park.

The Source Park will open its doors to skaters and BMX riders for the first time this Saturday after the redevelopment of a historic swimming baths.

The £1.17 million overhaul of the 19th century White Rock Baths was given the go ahead by Hastings Borough Council in June 2014 and is the brainchild of local business partners and brothers Richard and Marc Moore.

The designs for the park were drawn up by Worthing-based Saville Jones and construction work began in March.

Funding for the project has come from a range of sources including Hastings Borough Council, East Sussex County Council, the Foreshore Trust, the national Coastal Communities Fund and The Source Hastings.

The building will be let on a 10-year lease to The Source who aim to create 30 jobs at the world class indoor BMX and skateboard facility.

Richard Moore, Source Park director, said: "We’re so pleased that our vision for the dilapidated site has at last come to fruition and will offer riders and skaters a state of the art, world class facility here in our home town Hastings."

Councillor Dawn Poole, lead member for regeneration, said: “We’re delighted that after months of refurbishment we are now able to join Rich and Marc Moore to show off this fantastic facility on our seafront and open it to the public.

“The building will be let on a 10-year lease to The Source who aim to establish a world class indoor BMX and skateboard facility here in Hastings creating 30 jobs and which will undoubtedly greatly improve this area of our seafront and attract visitors to the town."
