A LORRY driver has been charged with drink driving after he failed a roadside breath test.

The motorist was stopped as he left Newhaven Port following a cross-channel ferry journey from Dieppe.

He was pulled over by members of the Sussex Roads Policing Unit at around 00.30am on Monday after a tip off by alert ferry staff.

UK Boarder force staff ensured he was stopped as soon as he disembarked.

A spokesperson tweeted: “HGV driver failed a breath test straight after driving off the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry. He’s been found to be roughly twice the limit.”

He was remanded in custody to appear at magistrates’ court.
