NEWHAVEN Town Council has donated £1,000 to the National Coastwatch Institution lookout on Castle Hill.

Deputy mayor Councillor June Dyer visited the site and presented a cheque to station manager David Crozier.

The grant aid will go towards the cost of installing new radar equipment in the NCI lookout.

Cllr Dyer said the town council and those who use the inshore waters and coastline were grateful for the NCI’s work.

Mr Crozier said: “The generosity of Newhaven Town Council is very much appreciated and this money will assist us in maintaining our watch and assisting HM Coastguard in the preservation of life at sea and along our coastline.”

NCI is a national charity set up in 1994 to assist in the preservation of life at sea through trained observation and is a recognised asset of HM Coastguard.

The charity operates 51 lookouts around the UK coastline. Newhaven lookout has given uninterrupted service every day since 2004.
