SUNFLOWERS in a nursery garden are now towering above the little children who tenderly cared for them.

The pretty flowers have risen two metres tall towering above the tots at Little Earthworms children's day nursery in Ditchling Road, Brighton.

The children have lovingly watered the plants through the spring and summer in the nursery's garden.

Co-owner Rachel Humphrey said: "It is something we do every year here at Little Earthworms.

"The sunflowers are just beautiful, and the children have been collecting rainfall and watering them."

The nursery, which cares for children from birth to five, is England's first eco-friendly nursery.

Open for seven years, the nursery uses solar panels to heat water, has their own vegetable patch , wormery and washable nappies.
