BARBIE dolls were given a makeover thanks to their little owners who were learning how to make them clothes.

Sixteen students learned to pattern cut and sew to create a new wardrobe for their favourite doll at The Fashion School in North Laine, Brighton.

The school which hosts classes for children, teens and students invited the creators of the book I Can Make to host a doll dress making workshop.

Scraps of leftover fabric were transformed into pinafore dresses and tiny handbags.

Tutors were impressed by the variety of design from elegant evening style dresses to bright, fun day time frocks.

Tutor Kerry Lockwood said: “It was just the loveliest afternoon.

“They were all in the studio sewing and playing with their dolls.

“So many said they are going to go home and carry on sewing for their dolls after the lesson.

“It is great to give them a new skill set.”

The school put on a number of classes for boys and girls in designing, making clothes and fashion illustration. Students also put on their own fashion shows and enjoy trips to London Fashion Week.
