AN A CAPPELLA jazz group is set to release a song penned by One Direction’s Niall Horan – even though they have never met.

Five-piece group Vadé won Sky One’s entertainment show Sing: Ultimate A Cappella last month, and were told they would be releasing a single as part of their prize.

But little did they know the song would be written by the One Direction star.

Roy Crisp, from Crawley, is one of the band’s singers.

He said: “When we won the show we were told we would have a single to release pretty much straight away.

“But they didn’t tell us who had written the song - obviously we were really surprised.”

Their debut album, Cry Your Heart Out, is set for release this Friday, with its lead single of the same name written by Niall Horan, who rose to fame when his band One Direction came third on The X Factor in 2010.

The album also includes a cover of Rag N Bone Man’s single Human.

The quintet have enjoyed a successful month since their television win, having been signed to Decca Records, owned by Universal Music Group.

The label also counts The Shires, Ludovico Einaudi and Alfie Boe in its repertoire.

Upon being signed, Vadé made their album at Abbey Road Studios in London - most famous for being where The Beatles recorded Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Mr Crisp said: “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions since we won, we’ve been ecstatic.

“Even up to now I’m still lost for words to have recorded at Studio Two, Abbey Road.

“You walk in, the aura, the smell – you get this legendary air.

“We all felt it, and wanted to make our album as great as possible.

“I feel very blessed. You have a dream, sometimes you don’t know where you’re going, and with us – even winning the show was a big surprise.

“It’s not often that you win a show and your very first single is written by such a huge star.”

None of the members of Vadé have professional backgrounds in music - Mr Crisp, who is 28, works as a carer.

The other four members, Jermaine Sanderson, Philip Yeboah, Joseph Anti and Joshua Hammersley Jr (JJ).
