A DRESS designer has taken the phrase “pampered pooch” to a whole new level.

She has created the ultimate must-have fashion item for your four-legged friend.

It’s a ball gown – and it will set you back a whopping £40,000.

But good news, dog lovers – it has still not been sold.

Called the “peacock gown”, the dress took 900 hours to make and features 40,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals and six metres of the finest bridal silk.

“It’s supposed to be like snow to make it all nice and Christmassy,” said designer Rachelle Fawcett, from Hove.

“The peacock gown is probably more expensive and has better materials than most women will get on their wedding day.

“It’s like the creme de la creme. Pure heavy silk satin, so yes, it’s very bespoke.

“It’s nice to just be creative and just have an idea in your head and think, right, let’s do this.

“But it’s kind of snowballed this year because the more I’ve done people are like, wow, wow, wow, so that’s how we’ve got to where we are now.

“It does look excessive, which was the look I was going for. What multi-millionaire wouldn’t love this?

“I kind of think of this piece as jewellery because it’s so sparkly.”

The dress featured on a Channel Four documentary last night called The World’s Most Expensive Presents.

Other items on the show included £250,000 gold-plated bikes and £60,000 alligator-skin poker sets and £11.5 million diamond-encrusted edible shoes.
