Wright blasts Sussex to long-awaited win at Hove
Sussex ended their long wait for a win at Hove as they thrashed Netherlands in the YB40.
The Sharks had not tasted victory at their home ground in any format for more than a year but brought that miserable run to an emphatic end.
Luke Wright smashed 114 as Sussex chased down a target of 186 to win with nine wickets and 112 balls to spare.
Earlier Netherlands had lost their last seven wickets for just 60 runs as they were bowled out with more than four overs to go.
The result keeps Sussex in fourth place in Group A but will help rebuild confidence following a run of only one win in their previous 14 competitive matches.
Netherlands came into the match on a high after beating Warwickshire two days ago and made a solid start after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Wesley Baresi scored a run-a-ball 64 as the visitors reached 110-3 at the halfway stage before Sussex fought back with the ball.
Will Beer sparked the collapse by trapping Baresi lbw with Chris Liddle then removing Peter Borren and Dom Michael in quick succession as Netherlands went from 125-3 to 130-6.
Tim Gruijters (27) and Pieter Seelaar (25) offered some resistance but Beer picked up another two wickets to finish with 3-49 as the Netherlands folded for 185 with 26 balls still to go in their innings.
Despite Sussex’s recent problems with the bat that never looked like being enough as Wright cut loose right from the start.
He smashed six sixes as he raced to his second century of the season in the competition off just 62 balls before finally holing out on the boundary for 114 having put on 175 with Ed Joyce, who finished unbeaten on 51.
