Sussex v Yorkshire LIVE
This live event has finished
- Sussex were bowled out for 292
- Yorkshire will resume on 246-4
- Play has been delayed by rain. Inspection planned at 11.30am
Hopefully he'll get the 2 he needs tomorrow. Was lucky not to be bowled by Rashid
5:34pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Will that be it for the day Steve - Joyce agonizingly on 998 CC runs for the season so far...
I'm going to sign off now. There will be a report at www.theargus.co.uk/sport as soon as it's officially called off for the day. Reaction and pictures in The Argus tomorrow. Unfortunately I won't be back tomorrow to see how this one pans out as football calls. Join me again for the final game of the season against Durham in a couple of weeks.
Reckon that might be it for the day. Can't see it getting any brighter and official end is 6pm anyway. Yorkshire won't be pleased as they would have wanted a wicket or two more to put themselves in a strong position to go for the win tomorrow. Still got a chance with the lead only 14 at the moment and two wickets down.
5:13pm Fri 13 Sep 13
2 gone already while we're still behind. Sounds like two more poor shots / wickets thrown away by 2 of the usual suspects. Wright will be back and hopefully Machan will be fit (and selected) for the final match. The question is exactly which two of the failing top 6 get dropped. Logically it could be any of them, though it probably should be RHB and Wells or Yardy. Maybe we should draw lots.
5:09pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Nothing to worry about folks, Hamilton- Brown will be in soon & will bat for his life!!!!!
Has got very gloomy now and off they go for bad light. Bairstow doesn't look very happy about it but I don't think you can argue even with the spinners on. Sussex will be happy to get off. They are 48-2 so 14 runs ahead.
Yep, spin at both ends as Williamson comes on. Umpires obviously said that's the only way Yorkshire can stay out there. Scores are level now. Sussex 34-2
With the umpires confering about the light Yorkshire respond by bringing on Rashid to bowl. Looks like we might get spin for the rest of the day then
Yardy slaps a cover drive straight to Jaques at cover. Goes for 15. Sussex still one behind on 33-2
4:37pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Why on earth can't our supposed top batsman play sensibly and get themselves in.Is another collapse on the cards yet again,so frustrating.
Tough out there for the batsmen. Light is not good and Sidebottom and Brooks are bowling very well. Nash and Yardy need to dig in. 10-1
Poor run for Wells continues as he goes for a 3rd ball duck. Drove at a ball from Sidebottom and his off stump goes cartwheeling out of the ground. Looked like it did a bit but not a great shot either. 4-1
Only the 3rd 4-for in Zaidi's FC career, one of which was for the superbly named Khan Research Laboratories!

Thanks for the update, LL.
Zaidi's previous best was 4-50 so not far off that. Pretty decent debut. Score some runs in the 2nd innings and a deal surely will be on the table
Plunkett charges down the wicket at Zaidi and is stumped. Yorkshire out for 326, a lead of 34. Zaidi finishes with 4-57 from 23.1 overs. Not bad effort on debut
Hatchett picks up his first wicket as he yorks Sidebottom and removes his middle stump. 320-9 so lead is only 28. Yorkies making a bit of a mess of this
Thanks lochlomond. I think I am okay posting your comment from the MB but of course am not allowed to write any comments myself!

For those of unable to attend and prevented from reading about it in the Argus, here is a post from the Message Board.
"For those who had all the questions for Robbo, you missed a fine oportunity to ask him what you wished,he twice asked for questions from the floor and stated he had all the time in the world to answer them, but as per normal several of the outspoken failed to use the oportunity to get things off their chest.
He also stated that when he walks around the ground during matches he has no objection to members asking him questions and I applaud him as you wouldn't get this in many counties. So I suggest if you want to know something ask him don't keep knocking the man who has bought a huge amount of success to the county and hopefully will do so in the future. He stated to one member that he will discuss anything but cannot always say he will agree with them.
I am not going to go through everything but some topics discussed was Floodlights, seems sides have to agree at the season start wether to use them in matches or not and the captain and the team decided after issues in previous years we would not this season.Once this decision is madeit can not be reversed.
Matt Machin came back from playing for Scotland with a back injury otherwise he would definitely played in last two games.
Robbo stated that as we have such a small squad how call ups for international duty can have huge effect on us,but someone like Yorks with huge squad can miss four or five players with little affect. He said it sometimes is a fine balancing act to support players international ambitions and primarily look after the county teams interests.
The new structure was not ideal but that's what we have been given so we have to give it our best shotto make it work for us.
Ed moving on was clearly rebuffed as gossip and he still has a year on his contract and loves it at Sussex.
Don't think any imminent return for Mr Adams
Still hoping to continue with festivals but a lot of work with new format to make them viable.
Farnrise sponsorship coming to end and we could have sponsors for each format
Iam sure I can go on for hours but it was a good discussion with good answers throughout from our chairman, ceo and Robbo".

If Robbo and Sussex CCC aren't afraid to answer difficult questions then why weren't you allowed to report on the comments made at the members' meeting, Steve? My father and I were members for many years but no point in my renewing now as I only get down to Hove once a year.
Hatchett replaces Magoffin down the slope. Only bowled 17 overs so far in this game compared to 29 for Anyon and 37 for Magoffin
Third wicket for Zaidi as Rashid lobs a catch to Magoffin at mid on. 3-52 off 21 overs now for him. Yorks 313-8
Yorkshire are obviously going to get a move on now as Plunkett smashes Magoffin for consecutive 4s
4 from Rashid to reach 300
1 over to get 1 run. 299-7
I have to say I was very impressed with the honesty of Robinson, Toumazi and Jim May in the meeting but Robinson in particular. I have always found him to give an honest opinion. Of course he is going to put a positive spin on things but that's to be expected isn't it. The thing that most impresses me is that he always fronts up even after the heaviest defeats. During the miserable t20 campaign he never shirked answering questions when I think other coaches would have. This morning the meeting was coming to a natural close and he even stood up to urge people to ask more questions to get things off their chest. You can criticise Sussex for their form this season but not Robinson for failing to respond to it
3:08pm Fri 13 Sep 13
As we aren't considered worthy of knowing what was said at the meeting, we can but guess....
Robinson "We were very unlucky in the T20s"
Toumazi "We now have a road sign pointing the way to The County Ground"
Robinson "If you had offered me fourth place at the beginning of the season I would have bitten your hand off".
Toumazi "We are aiming to maximise revenue in 2014".
Robinson "We have been unlucky with pitches".
Robinson "Will who?"
blah blah blah.......
Yorkshire have another 4 overs to get 9 more runs for another batting point.
Zaidi gets his 2nd wicket of the game. Ballance went for a sweep and got a top edge which looped over the keeper and was caught by Prior running back from slip. 284-7 now, still trailing by 8. Zaidi's figures of 2-41 from 17.4 overs are very respectable indeed
Zaidi going to have a twirl now from the sea end. 284-6 after 103 ovs
I can't see Adams getting a job at Hove next season. Just don't think it would work
2:52pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Do you think it likely that Chris Adams may return as a coach or similar, don't think he and Mark Robinson always see eye to eye.
Magoffin finally gets his reward for his efforts as nightwatchman Patterson nibbles one behind for 11. 276-6, still trailing by 16.
Yorkshire have moved on to 275-5 after 100 overs. Got 10 overs to reach 300 for another batting point.
I was a little bit surprised but can also see it from Sussex's point of view. They were concerned about anything slightly sensitive regarding Chris Adams or Monty being reported. They wanted to be as open as possible to members but that was not possible if I was there reporting on it. But as you say a member could have come out and told me everything
2:09pm Fri 13 Sep 13
"I was at the members' forum listening to the views of Robbo, Jim May and Zac Toumazi. I can't tell you what was said as it was made clear to me that it was for members only and if I was to stay then I had to agree not to publish anything." If you were a Yorkie you could have gone in and then told us all about it. Talk about lack of respect for loyal supporters! They trust Yorkie boys and girls but not the local reporter!!
Anyon strikes with his 7th ball of the day, trapping Williamson lbw who didn't add to his overnight 80. Yorkshire do have another batting point though as they are 250-5. Ballance the new man.
Obviously Monty will be leaving too so that is three out. Miller is also out of contract at the end of the season and hasn't done enough to earn a new deal so that's 4. Can't see there being too many others leaving
1:37pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Hi Steve so apart from Gatting and Rippon do you think there will be much coming and going over the close season ? quite a few players are out of contract. I agree with you re Liddle though there does seem to be more of a requirement for players to play all formats these days - financial constraints maybe.
At last we have some play. Mags to open down the hill. Should be a bit of juice in the wicket and the new ball is only six overs old
Play will start at 2.10pm if no more rain
Sun is out now and the covers are coming off - although a little slowly. Umps have just strolled out to the middle and are now heading back to the changing rooms so should have an announcement soon. 2.30pm start if there's no more rain possibly?
Umpires out in the middle again. Don't think it is raining at the moment but doesn't look promising either
Bit in the Birmingham Mail today about Stefan Piolet who is back at Sussex training but is unable to play this season.
'One man unlikely to figure again is Steffan Piolet who has returned to Sussex but cannot formally resume his loan spell or play for them, having been hooked back by the Bears in an emergency last week. “Steffan has been unlucky but haven’t we all?” Dougie Brown said.'
Very, very dark out there and it's just started to rain too. Covers going on. This might be it for the day as the weather is meant to get worse
12:11pm Fri 13 Sep 13
I went yesterday and left at tea. I won't be back much next season.
I don't forsee too many changes. Gatting will go, and I think Beer too. Rippon will go but the rest will stay.
12:08pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Looking at the current squad we just don't seem to have any strength in depth which is worrying.I would like to see Chris Adams return in some sort of coaching capacity and instill some fighting qualities, too many of the squad just seem to be going through the motions, with no pressure on losing their places. This season has been stop start in the Championship and to have no matches in August(I know we failed to qualify for T20)when we seemingly have a stronger squad and now to play in Sept with up to half the side missing is unfair on the spectators and the other Championship sides vying for the title.
It is going to need an almighty shake up for many season tickets(me included) to return next season.
He Neville. I think Gatting has run out of chances now and won't be offered a new deal. He is obviously a very talented cricketer but just hasn't produced the goods. As for Rippon I'm pretty sure he'll be leaving at the end of the season too. Not sure I agree on Liddle though. He has been the leading wicket taker in limited overs cricket for the last three years I think although he wasn't at his best this summer. I know Sussex want players who can play all formats but I think he would be an exception.
12:00pm Fri 13 Sep 13
Sent a post last night endorsing your views re RHB,think he needs to get his head straight and I think he was agood signing although he hasn't proved it yet. What is your view on Gatting, think he has had far too many chances and should go,also cannot see point of Rippon, never plays, the same can be said of Liddle.Expensive luxury just having Liddle for T20 and CB40.
Reckon there will be some play 3rdman but not much. Should start at 1pm but rain is meant to arrive around 2pm

11:56am Fri 13 Sep 13
Morning Steve - chances of play today = virtually zero ?
11:52am Fri 13 Sep 13
Incidentally, I received my membership renewal letter yesterday. Prices up by £20. I'm out.
That's two members already lost.
11:50am Fri 13 Sep 13
Who do these people think they are - the Politburo? You should have told them to stick it, Steve!
BREAKING NEWS: The sun has come out. Still very cloudy but it is encouraging we might get at least some play. Unfortunately the forecast is for rain at 2pm so it might be a brief period of play
Early lunch with play scheduled to start at 1pm.
Umpires out in the middle at the moment with groundstaff and Gillespie and Robbo. Looking at a couple of areas just off the square which are obviously of concern. Gillespie is patently not happy as he's been marching around the boundary in bare feet for the last 30 mins
Sorry for the delay in launching the blog but you haven't missed any action as the covers are on. Inspection planned at 11.30am.
I was at the members' forum listening to the views of Robbo, Jim May and Zac Toumazi. I can't tell you what was said as it was made clear to me that it was for members only and if I was to stay then I had to agree not to publish anything. What I will say is that there was no censorship of questions as suggested there would be on here yesterday by some. Also Robbo gave very honest and open answers and didn't try to hide away from anything. All topics were covered in detail with the meeting lasting almost 2 hours.
