Crofts given rest by Albion to prevent burnout

The Argus: Andrew Crofts was on the bench Andrew Crofts was on the bench

ALBION boss Oscar Garcia has revealed he rested Andrew Crofts, left, to spare him from burnout.

The five-goal midfielder, joint top scorer in the Championship for the Seagulls with five goals, was relegated to the bench for the 0-0 home draw with Huddersfield.

Kemy Agustien took Crofts' place, ending a run of 18 starts in a row for the Welsh international stretching back to mid-August.

Head coach Oscar told The Argus: “He’s played 90 minutes all season. Now in this period we have a lot of games. We will need everyone involved, everybody fit enough to play.”

Peter Brezovan retained his place in goal on Saturday, despite the recovery of regular No.1 Tomasz Kuszczak from a strained stomach muscle, and Will Buckley was preferred to Kazenga LuaLua to replace departed loan winger Craig Conway.

Oscar said: “Tomasz had a bad injury in a bad area and we want to keep everybody fit enough for the next games.

“Will can play 90 minutes and Kazenga has come back from a long (knee) injury. He’s not fit enough to play for 90 minutes.”

LuaLua, booked when he came on, now has two more matches to avoid another yellow card along with Crofts and second-choice right-back Inigo Calderon in order to escape a ban.

This is where a good squad should sustain decent results, like last season, with a pile of matches waiting for us. Good management in principle by OG, but disappointing on Saturday not to get the 3 points.

The Telegraph is reporting that Poyet will make a 2 million pound bid for Bridcutt once the window opens, is he extracting the urine?
The way Poyet went out of the door was never going to make it easy for him to do business with Brighton, but if he thinks that joke offers for quality players is going to work, then he needs to try that trick elsewhere.

Isn't this story about Dongou a couple of weeks old. I thought that Barca were a tad concerned about him going to, 'any,' championship club. If we are after him and actually have a chance of getting him, then I am surprised that we have not read about other champ clubs being interested. This just might be a non story, say to say.

I have read The Telegraph sports section from cover to cover, but no mention of Poyet/Bridcutt. I guess you must have seen it in the on-line version Vegas. Anyway, £2m is a nono. £4-5m may be worth considering as business is business as the say.

I saw the report via the, 'NewsNow, ' web site.
I just can't believe that a 2 million bid is a serious one, unless Bridcutt has a get out clause in his contract, and Poyet would know. A bid such as this one can only cause harm, it's not enough to get the lad, but it's a bid that might get Bridders thinking and right now, we need Liam fully focused on Brighton and not day dreaming of the prem.

Saraman, do you see us doing any buying in this window, assuming we don't sell and by doing so maybe getting forced into the market?
I think that a few teams around us in the table will buy, either to get into the top six or to remain there, and there is still the top two autos on some clubs minds. Will other clubs improving their squads require us to do the same just to ensure that we don't get left behind?

The only plus side I can see of such a move by Bridcutt is that he could shine whilst those around him fall. Relegation happens but he then gets an offer from a different prem club. That's a big gamble to take.

The other plus side albeit a minor plus side from Briddcut's point of view is that a contract Premiership club would mean financial security for life even if he were crocked in the first match.

So why on earth would he want to go to Sunderland LOL? Far better to stay with Brighton after all it's a nice town and football for a club you love is far more important than money

I can't see too much activaty Vegas as we are pretty well covered in most areas. The only in deal I can see is for a proven goal scorer, and that will cost us big bucks. Something I feel the management are not prepared to do. I was reliably informed a couple of months ago that Fabregas of Barca was on his way to us on loan for the rest of the season, in view of the fact that he cannot get a game. Wouldn't that be lovely

Agree with the comments here; could see Bridders going but I can safely say not for 2 million. An offer between 3.5 and 4 million will be tempting and to be honest he has been excellent with us and we do have Ince that does also leave us putting another midfielder or striker in the team. The good thing about Ince is that he does naturally venture forward. Don't get me wrong I would love Liam to stay but if the transfer news is right about Ritvhie and the striker from Bsrca then ee need to make room and some money.

Hmmm, not sure that he would fit in with our style of play, maybe take him on a trial period first.
