Mackail-Smith scores twice

The Argus: Craig Mackail-Smith scored a brace against Charlton tonight Craig Mackail-Smith scored a brace against Charlton tonight

Craig Mackail-Smith stepped up his comeback from injury with a brace as Albion’s development team drew 2-2 with Charlton at the Amex tonight.

The striker played the full 90 minutes, netting a stunning last-minute equaliser as the young Seagulls fought back from two goals down.

Mackail-Smith played for 76 minutes in last Monday’s 2-1 defeat by QPR, his first appearance at the Amex following more than a year out of first team action with Achilles, ankle and groin injuries.

This latest run-out is another step closer to forcing his way into first-team contention.

Albion, with Casper Ankergren in goal, found themselves 2-0 down by the hour-mark.

But Mackail-Smith, who had a first-half effort cleared off the line, halved the arrears on 64 minutes with a close-range finish into the roof of the net.

He then secured a draw in the 90th minute after cutting in from the left and curling a shot beyond the Charlton goalkeeper.

Cracking second goal, looked fit and ready for the first team squad, could be just what we need.

Cheers Blue-Eyed-Boy -- got in the car thinking kick-off was 7-45pm - missed the first half but caught the second half - good first goal but the second was a corker - curled beautifully into the left hand corner - either one got a fitting reception from the West Stand - first time I have been in that part of the Amex. Anyone who saw that tonight would take heart after that Saturday match -- he looked fit enough to me, took a boot in the mid-rift without complaint. Thought Chicksen looked very accomplished and no 4 Richards very good and no 7 Mutt -- Very uplifting --- and so nice to see Macka in action once more ......

Sounds good well done Macca, it and scoring, but you know he won't be picked, heaven forbid Oscar actually playing two strikers.

Sounds very promising. Thanks for the input guys.

CMS deserves a come back to what will hopefully be full fitness. An honest Pro, fantastic bloke and genuine 100% effort player.

Welcome back and really looking forward to seeing you back in the match day squad.

Fantastic news that CMS finally appears to be close to be able to return to the 1st team squad. However the big question for me is will OG pick Leo and CMS to play together ? Playing one lonely soul does not work, particularly at home, and OG is not now getting the best out of Leo.

Can he play in midfield instead of the long list if mis fits, no hopers, lightweights, and perrentially injured that we need to replace, al la:

Andrews.
Orlandi.
Forster Caskey.
Lopez.
Rodriguez.
Buckley.

And people ask the question, whats gone wring at the Albion? Pretty obvious I think.

How will he be able to get a game with the commitment to Lingard. Unless he plays instead of Ulloa he will not start. Perhaps sub for the rest of the season is more realistic given the length of time he has been absent.

Impact sub I reckon coming on for Lingard with 20/25 minutes to go.

took him less than that to score twice tonight - now apply that to any of those last 3 games and everyone might have been singing from a different hymn sheet right now .....

Outstanding post.I hope all the above players are off the clubs wage-bill next season. All a pure waste of money.Think CMS will have to make do with sub at best under OG.Which is a shame because he looks fit & ready to go.

I can't quite believe that anyone would want to offload either Orlandi or Buckley. They've both been unlucky with injuries and on their day they're both Premier League quality!
