Craig Mackail-Smith stepped up his comeback from injury with a brace as Albion’s development team drew 2-2 with Charlton at the Amex tonight.

The striker played the full 90 minutes, netting a stunning last-minute equaliser as the young Seagulls fought back from two goals down.

Mackail-Smith played for 76 minutes in last Monday’s 2-1 defeat by QPR, his first appearance at the Amex following more than a year out of first team action with Achilles, ankle and groin injuries.

This latest run-out is another step closer to forcing his way into first-team contention.

Albion, with Casper Ankergren in goal, found themselves 2-0 down by the hour-mark.

But Mackail-Smith, who had a first-half effort cleared off the line, halved the arrears on 64 minutes with a close-range finish into the roof of the net.

He then secured a draw in the 90th minute after cutting in from the left and curling a shot beyond the Charlton goalkeeper.
