Pregnant Woman In Car Crash
A pregnant woman was rushed to hospital complaining of severe pains after a head-on collision involving two cars in Woodside Park.
Another woman suffered facial injuries in the accident, which happened in Southover near the junction with Tillingham Way at 2.30pm on Friday last week.
The pregnant woman, who has not been named, suffered temporary injuries to her nervous system.
She was moved to a general ward the next day. Both her and the baby are believed to be out of danger.
Gerry Lucas, who lives in Southover, said: "Over the years, Southover has been a notorious blackspot for accidents. Twenty years ago a little boy was killed."
In an attempt this year to slow down vehicles, Barnet Council installed traffic islands, traffic signs and new road markings.
Mr Lucas, who described this as 'hair-brained', said: "All that has happened is that it has turned the road into something like Brands Hatch, with a couple of chicanes."
He added that it was only a matter of time before someone was killed again.
"What they've done has actually been counter-productive. There's been no review. We have not been consulted to see if it's a success or not," he said.
Barnet Council's cabinet member for environment, Councillor Geof Cooke, said: "As with all our safety schemes, people's views will be taken into account. We will be carrying out a review of the work done and how effective it has been."
