Chair could "cut your fingers off"

People's fingers are at risk of being cut off from cheap, metal-framed folding chairs, Hertfordshire trading standards officers warned.

Officers have withdrawn some of the trendy chairs, which cost less than £10 and are imported from abroad, from sale in the county, warning that they have a concealed scissor-style folding mechanism which could trap and sever fingers.

Hertfordshire County Council's trading standards manager Cathy Fielding warned: "They look attractive, but they could be lethal.

"We urge anyone who has bought these chairs to stop using them immdiately and we ask any traders who have them in stock to stop selling them."

The chairs have backs of various shapes, including round, oval and heart-shaped, and are covered in fabrics like fake-fur or patterned.
