Editor saddles up for his 150-mile ride

Tomorrow The Argus editor Michael Beard will be setting off for Paris.

But it certainly isn't going to be a holiday as he is pedalling all the way there on his bicycle.

Michael will be starting out from Brighton with 50 other cyclists to raise money for The Argus Appeal as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

After a leisurely ferry ride from Newhaven to Dieppe the four-day 150-mile trip to Paris via Chantilly begins in earnest. Michael wasn't taking any chances before the event and arranged for his bike to be checked over by mechanics at Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company.

Other companies across Sussex have supported the event through donations and equipment supplies.

Sussex Signs not only wrote a sponsorship cheque for £100 but also produced banners for the start and finish.

To sponsor Michael visit www.just giving.com/michaelbeard or keep up to date with progress via his blog.
