Michael Beard, editor of The
Argus, will be setting off today on a
150-mile cycle ride from Brighton to
Paris to raise money for our charity
The Argus Appeal.
So far, Michael has managed to raise
£2,645 and looks set to smash through
his £3,000 target.
He said: "I have trained hard and
managed to complete a 50-mile
training ride
but my mind
keeps going
back to those
mornings
when a warm
bed was
preferable
to a tiring
training cycle.

"As I look
ahead to the
start I have to
admit to a
feeling of
both excitement and a little
trepidation.
"I'm looking forward to joining the
other cyclists taking part, to swapping
stories and a few moans and groans
and the camaraderie I am sure will
exist among us all."
Michael thanks members of the
business community who have
supported his fund-raising efforts,
including Roger French, of Brighton
and Hove Bus and Coach Company, for
his £250 donation, Evans Cycles, of Air
Street, Brighton, for providing a
bicycle as well as his main sponsors
Southern Water, Jo Brooks Press and
PR, Brunswick Developments, Sussex
Signs and Fox and Sons estate agents.
