A growing way to raise funds

An open gardens fundraising scheme for an HIV and Aids care centre has been boosted by The Argus Appeal.

Private gardens specially opened for a Garden Gadabout event have raised thousands of pounds for Brighton's Sussex Beacon over the past 11 years.

The scheme has now benefited from a £3,000 grant from The Argus Appeal.

Julie Hales, Sussex Beacon community fund-raiser, said: "This year 22 gardens were involved over the two weekends in July, raising £6,080."

With the help of The Argus Appeal funds it is hoped to double the number of gardens taking part next year.

Would-be Gadabout gardeners can call Andrew Doig on 01273 692770.
