Not a promising start . . .

It was my third day in to our work weight-loss competition and still no more than a walk for exercise.

I was so focused at the weekend, prepared for the big event but then NOTHING!

I arrived at work to find my colleague had already eaten breakfast. I rushed to get my Special K - I needed that extra weight.

The scales came out, Nick and I walked over. We were wondering whether our last weekend had added a couple more pounds. I was shocked! I had lost weight! That late night kebab didn’t work!

Everyone picked his or her ticket from the hat. I picked mine: 5 lbs! Typical, I got the lowest amount of weight loss.

Are you confused? Let me explain . . .

Last Monday, a colleague and I took up a challenge against each other to see who could lose the most weight by the end of July. Not only did we have a private bet on this, but our team also had a sweepstake pulling out numbers, which would be our combined weight loss at the end. I got 5lbs! If I’m dieting and exercising for the next month and half, I want to lose double that.

So how did this come about? Incentives. We are either a food or alcohol-loving team and being office workers the pounds have been creeping on. We needed something that would keep us in check and going against each other seemed the incentive I needed. So here I am, Day 3, already learning a few things about myself.

1. I drink far too much at weekends that lead me to skip meals and come Monday morning at my desk I’m starving!

2. I do so little exercise. The Midnight Walk is this week so I really need to practise some hills.

3. People are much more supportive when you are open with them.

I have set myself a target and that’s to stick to regular eating. I would love to say I won’t drink but I know it’s just not going to happen ;-)
