Who are you seeing at The Great Escape?

Last year come festival time, I went to a bit of everything, I saw music, comedy, plays and monologues. Some were good, some, not so. And so this year, I have been pickier in my choices.

This weekend marks my festival 2010 debut and what better place to start than The Great Escape? With over 350 new artists in 30 venues over 3 days, how do you decide who to see?

The festival is mainly about new/up and coming artists there are only a handful I heave heard of. Ellie Goulding has definitely been hyped up over this year, and there are some oldies like Cornershop and Groove Armada. I also recognise the likes of The Big Pink and Chew Lips which are up and coming bands that I am lucky to have already seen.

But the problem is that I feel I should be discovering new bands and so should pick none of these, but artists I haven’t seen/heard off before – but how do you choose?

It probably takes three tracks for me to decide if I would like a band. So if I looked into all 350 artists giving them 9 minutes each, it would take me 52 hours (if my maths is right) to listen to all the artists – and even then I would most likely forget who is who!

So feel free to let me know your hot picks, otherwise I think I may just choose the venue which serves the best array of drinks – go in and park myself down for the night and see who comes along to entertain me!

Unfortunately, I think your suggestion of parking yourself down at a particular venue for the evening is the only viable one. At previous Great Escapes the demand to see certain acts has made flitting from venue to venue almost impossible.

That's what I've heard-and if you get set on a particular act (especially one of the more high profile acts) you have to get there well in advance. I'd rather not waste the night queuing for different venues and only end up seeing two bands in total!
