Strong nations starting to dominate

After an indifferent start to the 2010 World Cup the major nations are starting to show their quality.

On Monday evening we were fortunate to have tickets for Brazil v Chile in Ellis Park Johannesburg. Securing them from the South African Fifa network we paid £30 for tickets. Using our host’s car and its satnav we made our way right into Johannesburg city centre finding a parking spot five minutes walk from the ground. It's true what they say, Johannesburg city centre at night is pretty scary place to be. No street lights and lots of shadowy people around. Not being able to find a decent parking space Bryon got out of the car and he didn't come back for 10 minutes. My heart was beating a little faster than normal as I was stuck on a traffic island with cars beeping and people approaching. He came back and a second later we were parked up.

In my opinion Ellis Park is one of the major stadiums of the world. It’s traditional with very steep sides and a capacity of more than 50,000. We climbed many steps to get our position high above the goal. A tremendous view of the game.

Brazil and Chile served up something special. A match full of skill and excitement with the back drop of the samba drums playing all through. It was a pleasure to be there. Brazil finally won 3-0 saving the best goal till last.

Brazil would be my favourites for the cup - however with Argentina, Germany, Spain and the Dutch all looking strong, football fans are in for an exciting ride over the coming days

There have been some cracking games which have more than made up for some of the more sterile 0-0 draws. I watched the Uruguay v Ghana match last night and it was outstanding. Both sides would have beaten 'Tournament' England (that weird team of underachievers who always seem to turn up on the big stage) quite comfortably.
Looking forward to Germany v Argentina now and trying to forget that last Sunday ever happened!
