You know that feeling when you wake up in a hotel and just as you’re about to consider getting up to go down for breakfast you smugly remember filling in your menu card before you fell asleep? Then suddenly its ‘Knock Knock, Room Service’ and ta-dah breakfast is served whilst you’re still coming to.

It’s a lovely feeling and I think breakfast in bed is still one of the most wonderful things that can happen to you. So I was happy to stumble across this new local service for Brighton and the surrounding areas – Bonjour Breakfast, the home delivery company that will bring fresh breakfast goods to your door.

I had to give it a go and placed an order from their extensive list of pastries, croissants, hot drinks, porridge, fresh fruit, preserves, chocolate and juices. You can even order a newspaper – see I told you it was like waking up in a hotel! They use local and organic suppliers where possible, including my favourite Patisserie Cocoa who bake all the goodies from scratch first thing in the morning. They also use Teapig teabags which I guarantee will be nicer than the teabags you currently have in your cupboard. You can also order special items such as birthday cakes, champagne and Cafetieres! But for me just breakfast would be enough.

Honestly if you remember to order the day before the morning after you will be guaranteed such an indolent pleasure its almost worth having a hangover for. It was like having a big present delivered to the house that we could all open and enjoy, despite answering the door with bed-hair and sleep in my eyes. Our boy loved the sticky pains and pastries and I was happy to get some decent juice and porridge in the house.

It’s so evocative of Brighton! Fun, indulgent, and with a hint of the dirty weekend about it. It’s easy, good value and such a great idea I can’t believe no one has thought of it before.

Reward yourself with a box now and again, especially if you know you are going out the night before. Or if you have friends or family staying over, why not get some treats delivered to their guest room (or sofa bed). For a birthday or special occasion it’s a no-brainer. And of course, if your lover is staying over why waste that crucial early morning duvet-time in the kitchen when you can surprise them with fresh warm pastries and some er jam?

All you need to do is boil the kettle and take it all back to bed. Voila! With one of these babies delivered first thing it really will be a Bon Jour.
