Karen Macmillan, career change, life change

My life is very full at the moment. I'm studying and working part time, doing an Artist's Way course, helping with Bookstock (Brighton Book Festival June 9-12), and going out most evenings and weekends to do something either interesting or fun. I'm singing, I'm writing. I've already booked 5 tickets for the Brighton Festival. So what's my problem? I'm getting stressed. Too many good things to do, however interesting and engaging, become "things to do", They become work. Hence the resolutions. They are about clearing space.

Then, to fill the space (and not with more activity), a few more: 5. Meditate every day 6. Walk every day. Oops, it's starting to do look like a to do list, so I'll stop there.

How I love the build-up to Festival season, it always coincides with the daffodils blooming and that also means my birthday on St David's Day! And yes, Karen, I too get over-excited, over-book and end up seeking out last-minute new best friends to go to see this amazing/radical/chal
lenging performance with me, when my exhausted/bemused/th
eatred-out loved one just says 'no' - and means it this time! The Sky Planner is full of brilliant unwatched programmes. And there's the writing group (interested? we're open to new members), and my university courses - yes, two - and the early morning free-writing, three positive affirmations, and stomach crunches, and...oh yes, the day job (luckily freelance).
But who'd want to live anywhere else? We are so lucky around Brighton to have all these choices and options.
I suspect that if you were based somewhere less exciting, you'd start a whole tranche of events yourself.
I'm sure I would..

Ha ha. Yes it's all good stuff and a great time of year. Of course I'm interested in joining a writers group but, for once, I'm going to limit the number of things I do so that I enjoy each of them to the full. Which means ignoring that Spring surge of energy a bit and spending it on what I already have in hand. What's the point of getting off the corporate treadmill just to get onto another treadmill? At least that is the lesson I'm learning, I hope.
