Wood, glass and mirror shop overflies planning permission

over-sailing signage in High St over-sailing signage in High St

The distinctive wood’n’mirror shop Silver at 38 St James’s St is sailing close to the wind with its floating Genie. It is obvious that plonking a papier mache fairground ornament on top of traffic signage can only be a temporary measure to draw attention to a local Mardi Gras.

This shop has a history of municipal spats: there was a long running saga with the Council Pavement Police about the shop frontage on High Street being used as sales area. The display of the bespoke mirrors made from glass, wood and mosaic tiles outside the shop generated a court case which the shop owner eventually won.

The shop is a perfect example of free-thinking independent entrepreneurism, almost anarchistic it is flouting the rules of interior design ect. As well as mirrors, there is a selection of beautifully crafted chairs, coffee tables, dining tables and ornaments made from recycled oak and elm trees and a range of statues and artistic knick knacks. A veritable Aladdin’s Cave.

To be sure, Paul Lewis will not use up any of his Genie’s wishes in a futile attempt to cock-a-snoot at the local authority.

And he won't need overblown articles in local web pages, replete with cribbed wiki-pedia metaphors, to tell him so.
