a poem that lives for only three days

No-one mentioned Thanksgiving Day last night (November 24th) at the third day on the Pighog Press 2011 Brighton Poetry Festival at Redroaster Cafe, St. James's Street, not because everyone forgot about it but we are in Brighton not the USA.

It was a pleasure to hear local poets of long standing incant their wares -- Avant Garde Old Guard, all in three different styles, pace and rhythms -- Ian Sinclair explained how "reverse evolution" started in Hastings and has been pushing the frontiers of ignorance ever since.

Tom Raworth fired the words at gatling speed -- those who stand and stare where mown down.

Lee Harwood's slow and measured tones were a perfect counter-point -- the hoarse poet raises the cup to his lips.

At the interval, the raffle was drawn and one lucky ticket holder came away with three fresh Pighog Press books.

After the interval, there was more poetry from each, culminating with all three poets in stage in a surrealist version of consequences........

there are two days left in the feastical.........
