Shoreham Beach boardwalk, made from recycled plastic, runs from Ferry Road to Shingle Road and has been designed to offer safe and easy access to the beach for everyone, particularly wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility.
Or so it seems.
It was opened just before Christmas 2011 even though it had a 50 metre gap in it. It still has the gap as a result of a legal dispute between Adur Council and a property fronting the beach. The current freeholder claims that the boardwalk is on private land and this is shown in the Land Registry, whereas the Council claims the land was transferred from West Sussex Council years ago.
Until that dispute is resolved, wheelchair users cannot access the beach properly.
