Since graduating from Sussex many moons ago, I've spent most of my adult life as a nomad, living and working in places as farflung as California, Hong Kong and Beirut, with much crossing of continents and ski seasons in between. In recent years, I have finally managed to commit - to a husband, a mortgage, and Rupert Murdoch. Roaming and writing are my twin pleasures, so what could be better than blogging my life away on a train?
Just to update you, readers, on the saga of my so-called ‘fine’ for being sold the wrong ticket. I got a charming reply from Southern customer services who tell me it’s an administrative charge, not a fine. They were profusely apologetic for the confusion.
Planes, trains and automobiles Lots of travelling in recent weeks, dear reader — hence a slight slowdown in blogging activity.
Mightily aggrieved this week, readers. Sorry. Have tried to refrain from laying into the rail companies – in part because I have to travel with them every day to get to work, so prefer not to wind myself up into a negative mindset, and in part because they’re a soft target. Try to write about something more upbeat and positive, I thought when I started blogging. And that was five months ago so I’ve not done badly so far.
Who doesn't enjoy a drink on the train after a hard week in the office?
Oh, Mr Eno, you and your trains. Except this time I wished I could pretend I had a train to catch, but we were so near the front, and right in the middle, there was no way we could have got out without making a huge kerfuffle.
Is Brian Eno really God? Having a break from commuting — and getting involved in the festival — I realise what I've been missing
It was a match made in heaven when I was introduced to the iPhone. Wish I could say the same about the iPad
Don't believe everything you read — especially when it's peddling scurrilous rumours about cockroaches
It's obviously the done thing these days to put on your slap on the journey to work, rather than before you leave home
However bad the journey is, we always seem to hold onto our dignity, and remember that we're the lucky ones
What on earth did we do on the train before they invented the iPhone?
