What a brilliant, brilliant day

Posted on 5:34pm Monday 19th April 2010

That was the first of what I hope will be many, annual runnings of the Brighton Half Marathon. An utter triumph for the City, individual triumphs for around 8,000 runners and a brilliant day out for the 80,000 or so spectators.

Such an honour and a privilege to meet the Brighton Marathon organisers

Posted on 2:30pm Saturday 17th April 2010

It was such an honour for me to be invited to the pre-marathon party at the Pavillion last night. I was truly blown away by the sheer determination and hard work acheived by the race directors and the whole BM team that have and as far as I know are still working around the clock to make this race possible. Steve Ovett gave a great speech albeit with a strong twang of Aussie accent which quite suited him. Tim Hutchinson gave me a giggle when he gave his speech he mentioned that when he first had the idea of holding the Brighton Marathon he put his thoughts to the local constabulary whose initial response was "are you having a laugh?"

Last preparatory run done. So that's it then

Posted on 8:49pm Friday 16th April 2010

I got up this morning to do my final training run, a 30-minute jog. I decided I'd freak out completely and throw up instead, though, so I ended up doing it this evening when I got home.

Barefoot running won't be fun on Brighton's roads

Posted on 3:41pm Friday 16th April 2010

I've had a few distractions in the last couple of weeks which have taken my attention away from running a bit. I got a second 20 miler in before I started tapering though, so I feel fairly well prepared.

Fear creeps in, accompanied by resignation

Either I'm ready or I'm not. It's too late to do much about it at this stage.

Marathon nightmares and I'm a week too early.

Posted on 6:08pm Friday 9th April 2010

I had a bad dream last night that it was Brighton marathon day and for some reason I had not paid my entry fee. The fee in my dream was £190 and I was in a panic to get to the bank with my credit card to pay. My father was present although not being very helpful and even less so when the bank told me that my credit card was out of date. It was 11am by this stage and the race had been going for two hours. I still had a plan that I could catch up with the runners but attempting to persuade the bank to pay my fee was clearly not going to happen.

Obesity and Ill Health

Posted on 10:29am Wednesday 7th April 2010

Looking through a clothing catalogue recently I was amazed at how much larger some dress sizes go. Is it now considered normal for dress sizes to go up to a size 32? If so is that not encouraging people to remain unhealthy?
