Claire Banks is a young first-time mum who blogs for The Argus under the name Contented Mummy.
In a moment of disorganised chaos, I left the house without the changing bag on Saturday, the single most important piece of mum-survival kit when out and about…… or is it?
While I’ve been engrossed in my daughter’s development, 2009 has whizzed by. What better way to celebrate another exciting year with my baby than a fab New Year’s Eve party? We put on our glad rags and partied together.
Did you throw money at your Christmas planning to get it done? I’m sure that in our hearts, most of us would love to be practical but glamorous eco-warrior parents at this time of year but fitting all the extra preparation in on top of daily life is just too much.

How could I have forgotten Daddy? I was so enthusiastic about my own experiences I have shamefully overlooked the role that Little L’s father has played in these last six months. The simple fact is I could not be such a contented mum without his support. With running the household plus dad is working full-time, we don’t have oodles of ‘isn’t-life-amazing-being-a-parent’ heart to hearts. It was an enlightening exercise to listen to my partner’s life as Dad.
I absolutely cannot stand nursery rhymes. I don’t see why you have to repeatedly subject both baby and parent to such sickly sweet and banal songs.
I haven’t always been Contented Mummy. It was precisely because of my ‘baby’ panics in the early months that gave birth to my alter ego.
