John Palfrey - Project Cambodia profile »

Photograph of the Author

Hello John Palfrey here. Nicknamed Vicar! to those who know me at football. Who do I support? Well I am born and bought up in Sussex so it has to be the Albion. I am married with three grown children who will be remaining back home in Worthing.
In September I am heading to Cambodia where I will be working for a small orphanage in Siem Reap which is home to 35 children and a school to 100 others. I am setting up a marketing project to assist with their fundraising and plan to be away from home for six months, with the exception of a couple of weeks over Christmas.

I will be reporting on my adventures to this blog, and you can find more details, photos etc at my other blog, http://johnstuff.typepad.com.

At the mercy of Singapore Airlines

Packing Day, and at least I've have managed to assign myself a full day to ensure I have everything I need. Sadly, despite performing various exercises on weight scales etc. I am still around 10% over my allowance. After having packed and repacked I managed to end up with even more essential stuff, and have now finally decided to throw myself on the mercy of Singapore Airlines.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Catherine Tate has a very unlikeable character called Geordie Georgie who has a daily bizarre charity to raise money for. It is the same in our office where hardly a day goes by without some sponsorship appeal or other arriving in my inbox. (I have a limit of one donation a week,) So when it comes to my turn to elicit some fundraising I know I have at least got to have a decent ‘hook’ or idea to capture attention.

Tales from the Temples

So just who did leave a small blue sperm whale on the grave of Douglas Adams? That’s what I want to know. It was a lovely tribute to one of Britain’s top comic writers of his generation.
