If the shoe fits…

Why shoes?

“Why not?” I drool, in anticipation of a fully legitimised shoe-binge in the name of research.

I firmly believe that the right (and left) shoe has the power to transform – just like finding your Prince Charming, it can fill you with a giddy sense of confident self-satisfaction from head to toe.

And as the clocks go back and the summer months dwindle ever further into distant memory, the humble shoe takes on almost mythical properties, by day keeping us high and dry and by night bringing out the inner vixen from beneath even the thickest of black tights.

Yes, you could just hide away in your Uggs until Easter, but where’s the fun in that?

So we took to the streets of Brighton to find out what’s floating your footwear boat this week (check out our Street Style blog to see if we’ve spotted you!) and picked out a few of our own must haves to give you a head start.

It was love at first sight when I spotted these grey suede courts in Primark… These shoes, I thought, as they moulded joyfully to my feet, make me feel like a movie star from the golden age of Hollywood – back when women were shaped like Coca Cola bottles and oozed sex appeal without even trying. “Very L.K. Bennett,” my heart was telling me, as my head chimed in: “and they’re only £13!” Sold. Available in black, purple and midnight blue, I predict a sell-out.

Ellie adores these Aldo leather boots: “They are completely impractical and I do already own several pairs of winter boots but I just can’t resist them. I love their stompy yet sophisticated quality and could see myself wearing them with a range of outfits, from jeans to dresses and tights. However, I am being held back by the purse-busting £100 price tag which is more than a little outside my budget at the moment! Let me know if you see any cheaper versions.”

And Sarah loves her latest charity shop find: “Named in Vogue for being one of the greatest and, oh my, don't Eastbourne's charity shops deserve all the credit they can get. They’re like fashion gold mines. These boots were an absolute steal at £6.99. The socks came from the same charity shop for 99 PENCE! No matter what you wear with these boots they will make the outfit for you. Eastbourne is swarming with charity shops so if you like my outfit (all picked up from Eastbourne charity shops) I urge you to go right away.”

Now we’ve had our say, go forth and shop… Or, if you can hold out just that little bit longer, head to H&M on Saturday 14 November and be one of the first to get your hands on a pair of Jimmy Choos from just £14.99 – enjoy!
