Illustrator has carte blanche at art home
3:00pm Wednesday 20th May 2009 in Festival News
An arist who illustrates for supermodel Kate Moss is to show off his work at an artists’ open house.
Tim Watkins has illustrated the model’s last three collections for Top Shop and spent more than seven years helping to create the award-winning virtual pop band Gorillaz.
He has also produced bespoke wallpaper designs for Virgin Records’ head office and for a fleet of Agent Provocateur taxis.
His limited edition maximalist screen prints and newly launched bespoke wallposter project Sacred Heart are on show at Ourhouse Brighton.
The open house at 13 North Gardens, Brighton, says it is “on a mission to make the ordinary extra-ordinary” and also features the work of four other artists exhibiting a limited edition range of prints, canvases, bespoke lighting, homewares and fashion accessories.
Beautiful Lisa Gellender, who will be showcasing her screen-printed homeware and prints, said: “It’s great to get Tim involved. He has got some beautiful work and we have had some fantastic feedback from our visitors so far.”
Miss Gellender said the idea behind the open house, which is the first any of the artists have taken part in, was to show that accessories can also be pieces of art.
She said: “I ran a design agency in London for ten years and knew lots of illustrators and artists who I wanted to bring together to make a totally different open house.
“We wanted to create a more contemporary style for our open house and are kind of like a boutique cottage.
“Accessories in the home are like another piece of art and can change the feel of a room. They have become more and more fashionable these days.
“Interiors can change seasonally and can transform a room.”
Other artists involved include Max Watt, Francesca Pendlebury and Lena Goodison.
Ourhouse will be open on Saturday from 11am until 6pm and on Sunday and Monday from midday to 5pm.
