Marina Celeste is the pretty, erstwhile singer with Nouvelle Vague – the French band that made XTC, the Joy Division and Modern English go bossa nova.

Celeste, a woman who has cheekbones measured out by protractors and sounds like she should have dueted with Serge Gainsbourg if only he’d lived long enough, helped Nouvelle Vague cheer up The Cure’s In A Forest and Josef K’s Sorry For Laughing. Somewhere along the way she became a hit in Japan and the former law student recorded the album, Acidule, on Japanese label Rambling Recordings.

Her new album, The Angel Pop, is out later this year.
