Eyes Down! Bingo with Ida Barr, Udderbelly, Brighton, May 24

No Brighton Festival would be complete without the one and only old-time music-hall star Ida Barr. But this is no ordinary Ida.

The original sang ragtime melodies in the 1920s, whereas Chris Green's expertly resurrected Ida for the noughties is an elderly hip-hopping MC whose foul mouth brought the house down on Saturday.

I tip my hat to whoever came up with the idea for her to host bingo. With a table full of the worst prizes seen this side of Hanover Day's tombola, the "patented" Bingo calls - "66, R'n'B licks" - and rapping are a tongue firmly-planted-in-cheek delight.

And no afternoon with Ida would be complete without an all-inclusive rendition of the Hokey Cokey. Embarrassing, but genius.
