NEW monthly workshops will promote better communication skills for people with learning disabilities.

The free workshops at libraries around West Sussex include sessions on a variety of communication topics, bookable mini-consultations offering the opportunity to problem-solve specific communication issues and the chance for people to discover what their local library has to offer.

The sessions are open to families, carers and staff in local services and are run by Speech and Language Therapists, who have a background in working with adults with learning disabilities.

The workshops are held at the Worthing, Crawley, Chichester and Bognor libraries. Councillor Peter Catchpole, West Sussex County Council cabinet member for adults’ services, said: “This is a real chance for people to gain confidence and develop their communication skills when supporting someone with a learning disability. I hope as many people as possible will take the opportunity to be involved in these workshops.”
