This family-run bakery is flying high after securing a contract to supply cupcakes for an airline’s birthday celebrations.

Sweet baked goods firm Raise, which has a factory in Worthing, was chosen to bake 3,500 Red Velvet treats for Virgin Atlantic’s 30th birthday on June 22.

The company was chosen after a successful working relationship with the Crawley-based airline for more than two years, which has seen cupcakes supplied to onboard passengers on more than 15 flights a day.

Raise mastermind Lindsay Jacobs started the company from her kitchen and has sold more than four million cup cakes to Virgin Atlantic since June 2009.

Lindsay’s son Jeremy Jacobs manages the business while husband Trevor Jacobs is operations manager.

Jeremy said: “We’re thrilled that Virgin Atlantic has selected us to supply cup cakes as part of their 30th birthday celebrations.

“We’ve developed a great working relationship with the brand and it’s testament to our excellent product and service that they have chosen us.

“My mum continues to develop the new product lines from her kitchen. She has been an avid baker from a very young age and was taught by her mum, my grandmother, Marjory.

“She gave birth to the company and brings her creations to life with her innovative recipes and flavour combinations.”

Aside from a love of cupcakes, Raise and Richard Branson’s Virgin Empire also share a passion for corporate social responsibility.

Jeremy said: “Each employee has one day a year to dedicate to a charity of their choice and the company has run fundraising events to support causes including for people suffering with HIV/AIDS and Parkinson’s.”

Karen Woodley, of Virgin Atlantic, said: “The Red Velvet cupcakes from Raise are absolutely delicious. The sponge was amazing and light with the perfect amount of cream icing.

“It was an obvious choice as not only was the cake from Raise the outright winner but it was backed up with exceptional service.”
