A MAJOR public-private partnership has backed the newly-formed A27 Action campaign which is lobbying for expansion and improvement of the East to West Sussex route.

Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership has called on businesses and residents who depend on the trunk road to show their support.

Chief executive Ron Crank said: “There is a swell of support along the route which is always encouraging at the start of any project. I would now urge the action group to continue pursuing the lobbying of Government.”

The A27 runs for more than 100 miles from Pevensey through to Whiteparish, near Salisbury.

It was identified as one of six points affecting the efficiency of the UK's network of trunk roads.

Businesses say the congested road affects deliveries, staff commutes and suppliers and costs them thousands of pounds every year.

The A27 Action steering group includes council leaders, MPs and business leaders such as Martin Fausset, managing director of Shoreham-based global engineering consultancy Ricardo.
