OPERA house Glyndebourne has retained the highest possible rating for its environmental performance for a second year.

It retained the 3* Industry Green rating awarded last year by independent environmental group Julie’s Bicycle in recognition of its ongoing commitment to addressing its environmental impact. The rating is held by just three other arts venues and five festivals.

The opera house’s on-site wind turbine provided 95% of the its electricity – surpassing the 90% target. Executive chairman Gus Christie said: “Maintaining our 3* Industry Green rating caps off a very successful year for Glyndebourne in our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint.

“The wind turbine is delivering on expectations and across the company a concerted effort is being made to reduce our use of electricity and gas.

“We are continually examining ways in which we can make further improvements both through changes to our own working systems and through partnerships with like-minded businesses.”
