A PIONEERING vineyard will mark its 40th anniversary.
Breaky Bottom was set up in an isolated farmstead in a South Downs valley near Lewes by Peter Hall in 1974 when there were only a dozen in the UK.
Its reputation was established with elegant Loire-style wines from Seyval Blanc.
More recently classic Champagne grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier have also been planted, however Seyval Blanc is still the principal variety.
Breaky Bottom is served at official Government receptions and was selected as part of the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic celebrations.
The 40th Anniversary will be held at Pelham House.
Tickets are on sale from Pelham House at £27.50 a head and include three-courses and a glass of wine. Tickets can be bought from 01273 488600.
