A furniture store will quadruple in size after a multi-million pound Business Growth Fund (BGF) investment.

Independent retailer Furniture Village, on Old Shoreham Road, Hove, will be increased from 4,000 sq ft store to around 20,000 sq ft.

It follows a grant to the 40-strong chain for £6 million.

No further details were available but the investment is expected to create new jobs in the area.

Furniture Village was established in 1989 by co-founder and chief executive Peter Harrison and marked its 25th anniversary of trading last month The Business Growth Fund will enable expansions across the UK and investment in new technology and software.

Jon Simon, senior investment manager of the Business Growth Fund, said: “This represents an exciting opportunity for BGF to back a well known British brand with a strong heritage and a track record of profitability. “We are supporting a clear growth strategy based on selective store roll-out and investment in new software. “This in turn, will improve the operational efficiencies of the business and increase the focus on e-commerce.”
