A TRANSPORT operator in Sussex is the first FTSE 350 company to be awarded with a ‘fair tax mark’.

The Go-Ahead Group, owner of the Brighton and Hove Buses, Southern and incoming Thameslink operator Govia, said the award showed it was committed to paying its fair share of tax. The Newcastle based group recently announced profits were up 44% to £91.2m thanks to record bus and rail passengers.

Meesha Nehru from Fair Tax Mark said: “The team at Go-Ahead showed real commitment to this exercise, adopted a new group tax policy that best reflected their current practice and revised the way they present tax data to provide information that met the Fair Tax Mark criteria.

“As a result they’ve committed to have good relationships with HM Revenue & Customs and to disclose how they get to the tax figures in their accounts.”

The Fair Tax Mark is an independent accreditation process that enables companies to make a public declaration regarding their corporation tax position.
