A SOFTWARE developer has attracted worldwide funding for a unique web tool.

Tom Christie, technical lead at Brighton consultancy DabApps, developed Django REST framework in his spare time.

After launching a Kickstarter campaign he secured £30,000 in just 14 days to allow him to spend more time developing the framework.

Big businesses such as Eventbrite are backing Tom’s development project that aims to comprehensively address some of the shortcomings in the open source project, Django REST framework.

The technology allows web programmes to communicate with each other more seamlessly for a user friendly experience.

Tom said: “We’ve now blown way past all the stretch goals and still going strong! It’s brilliant, many thanks to all the supporters.”

Chris Palk, managing director of DabApps, said: “All credit goes to Tom for the many hours of development he has put into REST framework over the last three years.

“He is the main author behind this open-source project and, as is evidenced by the response to the Kickstarter campaign, has created a powerful and highly popular development tool that big businesses rely on.

“We are proud to support Tom in this project knowing that a large community of developers will benefit from his work.”
