CELEBRATED winery Ridgeview celebrated the opening of its future-proof tasting room.

The award-winning Ditchling wine estate enlisted Brighton-based Yelo Architects and Sompting-based Nutshell Construction to create the groundbreaking space.

It is an interpretation of the view of Ridgeview’s vineyard on the South Downs, using angular walls to manipulate light, just as vines and leaves change colour as seasons change.

Latest construction materials including fused glass for seamless tabletops and concrete panel flooring were used.

The launch event last week was hosted by wine critic, author Charles Metcalfe.

Mardi Roberts, sales and marketing manager at Ridgeview, said: “We are extremely proud of our new tasting room which we feel reflects the professionalism of our brand and aids us in continuing to grow the hospitality side of our business.

“It has been great to work with the visionary team at Yelo Architects and the truly skilled and professional Nutshell Construction team, who made our dream a reality.”

Andy Parsons, founder of Yelo, said: “I was so taken by the view from the tasting room, it was instantly clear I had to come up with a design that would not take away from the view, but actually enhance, build and extend it.”

Ben Copper, founder of Nutshell Construction said: “This has been one of our most challenging builds to date, but we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.” The room is available for hospitality events and holds a maximum of 40 guests at any one time.
