AROUND 30 people are facing redundancy at energy giant EDF.

The voluntary redundancies at their offices in Portland Road, Hove and Southdownview Road,Worthing affect line managers and team coaches.

The company said it would help those affected into new roles “where it is possible”.

EDF has hired extra call centre staff in recent years as it implemented a new IT system.

With customers now using the system around 150 staff across the country are no longer required.

Employees will be asked to volunteer if they wish leave the company.

An EDF spokeswoman said: “To ensure that we run our business as efficiently as possible, we will require fewer employees in our customer service business by the end of 2014.

“Many of these employees were seconded into their positions, and will simply revert back to their previous roles within EDF Energy.

“For others who have not been seconded, we will support them in securing roles elsewhere in the company, where it is possible to do so to do so.

“We are aiming to achieve any further reductions on a voluntary basis and a full consultation has begun with trade unions and employee representatives.

“We are doing everything possible to minimise any redundancies and to achieve any that are required through voluntary means.

“The proposals have been shared at the earliest opportunity with employees who are impacted and discussions are ongoing.”
