BRIGHTON and Hove faces potential bus driver strikes if an agreement cannot be reached with their trade union.

Brighton and Hove Bus Company meets with Unite on Wednesday to try to thrash out a deal.

If it cannot, services in the city are set to be affected on Saturday, November 15, and Wednesday, November 19.

The potential strike action relates to a pay offer and working conditions.

An anonymous bus driver said: "The disappointment is not so much the money but the way they are being treated."

The company employs more than 1,400 people.

The pay offer is for a 2.3% increase plus an improved Sunday and Bank Holiday premium rate, taking the value of the offer to almost 2.5%, coupled with a minimum of a further 2.5% from June 2015.

The bus company said this offer could be worth more than 5%. It confirmed that its drivers "more or less" earn £11.45 an hour.

The company is working to get its tickets accepted on trains and with other operators.

Schools will be contacted ahead of November 19 if temporary arrangements are needed.

Martin Harris, managing director of Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “We are meeting with the trade union on Wednesday and I sincerely hope we can come to an agreement from there.”
