THE BIGGEST cruise ship in the UK has selected Wiston Estate Winery to supply its bubbly.

P&O Cruises will be celebrating all things British by selecting sparkling wine from the Wiston Estate Winery.

Thousands of bottles of the South Downs estate’s Brut NV and Rosé, Vintage 2011 will be popped at the launch of Britannia in March 2015.

Four nebuchadnezzars – 15 litre bottles – of the quintessentially British winery’s Brut NV will be used for the naming ceremony itself.

Wine expert Olly Smith chose the sparkling wine for P&O.

He said: “I selected Wiston Estate to launch Britannia thanks to its impeccable quality and for its position between modernity and tradition.

“Wiston stands for passion and pride as a technically masterful English sparkling wine producer since 2006 with heritage as a farming estate stretching back to 1743.

“But the main reason is because its bubbly is irresistibly delicious!"

The Goring family have been custodian of the Wiston Estate for hundreds of years but have only recently realised a long-held dream to make sparkling wine in the South Downs.

Britannia’s maiden season will see the ship sail from Southampton to the Mediterranean, Norwegian Fjords, Canary Islands and the Baltic Sea, and the Caribbean for the winter season.
